What to Discuss with a Doctor After a Car Accident

Car accidents can result in serious injuries, like broken bones, traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries. That is why a Watkinsville, GA car accident lawyer would advise you to see a doctor after a crash.

Here are some important things to discuss with a doctor after a car accident.

  • Your medical history. When you see a doctor about your car accident injuries, he or she will want to know about your medical history. Your past injuries and health conditions can affect your current injury. Therefore, you should be completely honest about your health history. If you don’t, your doctor may have not all the information he or she needs to treat your injury.
  • Your treatment options. After your doctor diagnoses your injury, he or she will advise on the proper treatment. It is important to find out what the treatment will entail and approximately how much it will cost. Then, you can plan for your recovery and help your lawyer from Norris Law understand how much compensation you are owed.
  • Your symptoms. During your first appointment with a doctor, you should be very specific about your injuries and symptoms. For instance, if you believe that you hurt your back, tell your doctor if the pain is in your lower or upper back. Do you also feel more pain at certain times of the day or after you do certain activities? If so, you would let your doctor know. While you should be descriptive about your symptoms, you also should not exaggerate them..
  • Your ability to work. Some people continue to work even after they have gotten injured in a car accident. If your injuries are serious enough, your doctor may want you to take off time to heal. It is important to listen to your doctor’s advice and not go back to work before you have recovered. When your doctor gives you the go-ahead to return to work, you may still have some limitations.
  • Your healing outcome. After properly evaluating your injuries, your doctor may be able to estimate your prognosis. He or she may tell you when you can expect to recover or whether or not you will have permanent disabilities. This can help you plan for your future.

If you have been hurt in a car accident, you should schedule a consultation with an experienced lawyer to talk about your case as soon as possible.
